New Upgrade! 30% Faster Ratio Change
We’re excited to be offering rebuild upgrade options for C6 Corvettes that swap internal gearing to give you faster steering. The factory in-car steering ratio is roughly 16:1, which has been a standard ratio for a long, long time. With Turn One’s exclusive quick ratio option, your rack will be converted to an 11:1, making it approximately 30% faster. This means less hand-over-hand steering in tight corners, quicker corrections, and more precise inputs! Simply select the upgrade option when you check out above, and when you send your rack for rebuild, we will modify and upgrade your core with the new internals.
Corvettes are one of our specialty vehicles at Turn One, and we service many C6 racks. Whether your rack is gushing fluid, you just want a “tune-up” for the upcoming race season, or you’re looking for a performance upgrade with a quicker steering ratio, our rebuilding service will bring your rack back to its peak potential. Read more about our services below. If you have questions about our rebuilding services or process, please contact us.
Please be aware that not all C6 racks are interchangeable. This is especially important to take into account if you are purchasing a core to send to us – you’ll need to make sure the new core matches the age bracket of your car. If the rack is mismatched to your car, it will function, but the steering feel might change significantly.
As part of the rebuild, we install new boots on the rack, and also take special care to seal the magnasteer wire area*, which is an area commonly prone to leaks. If you would like us to install new inner tie rods on the rack, we recommend sourcing those yourself ahead of time. Include them with your rack, and we will install the new inner tie rods during reassembly so your rack is drop-in ready. As with any rack, individual cores can have internal issues with hard parts, such as damage, wear, or pitting from oxidation. Fixing these types of issues is often critical to ensure the rack is rebuilt to OEM specifications, and fixes can influence the total cost of the rebuild. If we find any issues that will prevent us from getting your rack core to OEM specs, you will be notified, and the issue will be addressed accordingly. Thankfully, we usually have a small stock of good-condition used C6 rack parts, so issues typically do not impact turnaround times.
*We cannot guarantee a perfect seal from the electromagnet “magnasteer” wire area. However, we’ve had great success with our sealing process to improve or stop previous leaks and have a better-than-OEM track record of how this seal performs.
C6 Corvette Rack & Pinions (2005-2007)
These C6 years are interchangeable without any negative effects. There is no change in effort for our Quick Ratio Upgrade on these models.
C6 Corvette Rack & Pinions (2008)
2008 Corvette racks are a unique, standalone year. These are not perfectly cross-compatible with earlier or later rack models, so if you have an ’08 and are sourcing a backup rack, please make sure you get an exact ’08 replacement. If you swap with a non-2008 model, you will likely notice a change in steering effort with the magnasteer assist. If you are upgrading to our Quick Ratio rack internals, please be aware that you may notice a change in steering effort due to valving/magnasteer differences.
C6 Corvette Rack & Pinions (2009-2013)
Rack and pinion from the last five years of the C6 generation are interchangeable with no effect. If you are upgrading to our Quick Ratio rack internals, please be aware that you may notice a change in steering effort due to valving/magnasteer differences.
Magnasteer Delete Option
With any C6 Corvette, whether it is a stock rebuild or our Quick Ratio Upgrade rebuild, you have the option to fully delete the magnasteer controller on the rack. During the rebuild, we do a custom internal plug on the housing hole, which guarantees a seal. If you want this done to your rack, please type this in the “comments” section during checkout. The cost for the full delete adds $200 to whatever rebuild option you are choosing.
Please refer to the Rebuild Checkout Process before placing your order
Please Follow the Checkout Process Below:
1) Complete our online checkout, where you pay an initial deposit for your rack rebuild. Please enter the year and model of your rack during checkout.
2) You will receive a 4-digit order # after you complete the checkout (xxxx). Please either write this order # on the shipment package, OR include a printed paper with your shipment that shows the order #.
3) Ship us your rack & pinion however you would like. You can use your choice of shipping provider and packaging. Please make sure that your hose ports are capped, and no fluid will escape the rack during shipping. If possible, we also recommend removing the inner tie rods of the rack to help make it shorter and less expensive to ship. However, this is not necessary if you don't feel comfortable doing so. We do not need the inner tie rods or boots to complete the rebuild, but if you include the originals, we will reinstall them for no additional charge.
4) If you know that you would like or need to replace the inner tie rods or boots, we recommend you purchase these ahead of time and include them with your rack shipment. The inner tie rods or boots should be replaced if they are ripped or showing other damage. We will install new boots & tie rods for no additional cost and send back the assembled rack. Our rebuilding services DO NOT include new tie rods or boots.
5) Please leave the high-pressure hard lines attached to the rack (they connect the valve housing to the rack tube). We need these with the rack to properly dyno test your rack after rebuilding.
6) Ship it!
