Corvettes are one of our specialty vehicles at Turn One and we service a lot of C4 rack and pinions! Whether your rack is gushing fluid, or you just want a “tune-up” for the upcoming race season, our rebuilding service will bring your C4 rack back to its peak potential. Read more about our services below, and as always, if you have questions about our rebuilding services or process, please contact us.

C4 Corvette Rack & Pinions (1984-1987)

Early model C4’s between 84-87 years (and a few early 88’s) were produced using rack & pinions with an aluminum valve housing. The Teflon seals that surround the spool valve wear grooves into the aluminum housing. Whether or not the driver can feel the steering issues that result from these grooves, we must perform necessary work to correct this issue in order to properly rebuild the rack and reinsert the valve. The extra work involves boring the housing and inserting a steel sleeve that will not wear. This is a one-time permanent fix for the housing issue, and is the reason the rebuild cost is higher than other years. Turn around time for these racks can be slightly longer due to the extra work required.

C4 Corvette Rack & Pinions (1988-1996)

Later model C4’s were a very standard rack, and do not require any extra work. However, because these vehicles are getting older in age, we are seeing more that have issues like pitting on sealing surfaces, which causes or contributes to leaking because fluid can bypass the seals. As is the case with any rebuild, if we see components that are concerning, you will be contacted and we will explore options in order to fix issues that will affect the performance of the rack.

Please Follow the Checkout Process Below:

1) Complete our online checkout, where you pay an initial deposit for your rack rebuild. Please enter the year and model of your rack during checkout.

2) You will be issued a 4-digit order # after you complete the checkout (xxxx). Please make sure to either write this order # on the shipment package, OR include a printed paper with your shipment that shows the order #.

3) Ship us your rack & pinion however you would like. You can use your choice of shipping provider and packaging. Please make sure that your hose ports are capped and that no fluid is able to escape the rack during shipping. If possible, we also recommend removing the inner tie rods of the rack to help make it shorter and less expensive to ship, but this is not necessary if you don’t feel comfortable doing so. We do not technically need the inner tie rods or boots to complete the rebuild, but if you include the originals we will reinstall them for no additional charge.

4) If you know that you would like to (or need to) replace the inner tie rods or the boots (if they are ripped), we recommend purchasing these ahead of time yourself and including with your rack shipment. We will install new boots & tie rods for no additional cost and send back the assembled rack. New tie rods and boots are NOT included as part of our rebuilding service.

5) Make sure to leave the high pressure hard lines attached to the rack (they connect the valve housing to the rack tube). We need these with the rack in order to properly dyno test your rack after rebuild.

6) Ship it!
