Early Mustang Rack & Pinions (1974-1988)

The earlier style of Ford Mustang rack did not correspond directly to generational changes, so it applies to both 2nd gen and early 3rd gen Mustangs.

Later Rack & Pinions (1989-2004)

This later style of Mustang rack bridges 3rd gen and 4th gen Mustangs. In addition to a standard rebuild, we have the capability of upgrading these racks to Mustang R-Spec tuning standards. R-Spec racks are highly coveted and nearly impossible to purchase, so upgrading your basic rack during rebuild is an easy and guaranteed way improved road feel.

R-Spec Upgrade Information
Contrary to popular belief, the R-Spec rack and pinion did not have a different rack ratio, but rather a custom-valve profile to increase steering effort by about 25-30% compared to a standard model. This is also applicable to the SVO model. This higher effort provides better road feel and feedback to what the front of the car is doing. This is especially desired for drag, autocross, and road racing applications where feeling the front-end response is critical to the driver. Our R-Spec rebuild does just that – increase your steering effort by 25-30% to match R-Spec valving. This modification is done while we perform the regular rack rebuild, and only takes slightly longer for turnaround.

Please Follow the Checkout Process Below:

1) Complete our online checkout, where you pay an initial deposit for your rack rebuild. Please enter the year and model of your rack during checkout.

2) You will be issued a 4-digit order # after you complete the checkout (xxxx). Please make sure to either write this order # on the shipment package, OR include a printed paper with your shipment that shows the order #.

3) Ship us your rack & pinion however you would like. You can use your choice of shipping provider and packaging. Please make sure that your hose ports are capped and that no fluid is able to escape the rack during shipping. If possible, we also recommend removing the inner tie rods of the rack to help make it shorter and less expensive to ship, but this is not necessary if you don’t feel comfortable doing so. We do not technically need the inner tie rods or boots to complete the rebuild, but if you include the originals we will reinstall them for no additional charge.

4) If you know that you would like to (or need to) replace the inner tie rods or the boots (if they are ripped), we recommend purchasing these ahead of time yourself and including with your rack shipment. We will install new boots & tie rods for no additional cost and send back the assembled rack. New tie rods and boots are NOT included as part of our rebuilding service.

5) Make sure to leave the high pressure hard lines attached to the rack (they connect the valve housing to the rack tube). We need these with the rack in order to properly dyno test your rack after rebuild.

6) Ship it!
